For the past year and a half, our Principal Accountant & Consultant, Justin Sundberg, has been heading the ever-growing practice of Sundberg Tax & Consulting while also leading corporate taxation at the Star Tribune.
During his time as the in-house tax professional for the Star Tribune, Justin has accomplished a huge variety of tasks. He established new processes to manage the multi-jurisdiction sales tax aspects of the new online merchandise store, pushed for and developed a very complex tax opportunity for manufacturers, and used his tax expertise to secure a refund of hundreds of thousands of dollars for the company.
During both spring and fall tax seasons, Justin has worked at the Star Tribune during the days and for our firm at night. This was only possible because of the tremendous corporate culture at the Star Tribune, which allowed him to step out for client meetings, conventions, and networking.
Justin’s time with the Star Tribune has provided him with the complex corporate work he enjoys and hasn’t had since his time at Deloitte. He also was able to exercise the corporate tax focus of his Master of Business Taxation degree from the Carlson School of Management. With the addition of larger, more complicated clients, Justin notes that the work is getting a lot more “fun.”
Because the tax role at the Star Tribune has grown and the amount and complexity of work at SundbergTC have increased, without adding more hours to the day it is no longer possible to maintain the standard of excellence that has been a consistent feature of his career and a differentiator of our firm. Therefore, as of the end of the work day on November 20, 2015, Justin Sundberg will no longer be employed by the Star Tribune. While bittersweet, Justin’s decision to resign will allow him to be more available and responsive to his clients.
We are excited for this new chapter in our firm! This marks the first time Justin will be focusing his energies 100% on our practice, and eagerly anticipate the continued growth, development, and enhancement to our client services.
Congratuations Justin!!! You have been the greatest accountant for me ever! Thank you so much ! Pippi
